Anton Muscatelli, Principal of the University of Glasgow, held a meeting with students and staff in the Bute Hall at noon today. The meeting was called in response to the events of Tuesday, March 22, when students occupied parts of the management wing in the main building after the police evicted them from the Hetherington reseatch club. Stifled by these events, the turnout of the discussion chaired by Rector Charles Kennedy was enormous, with probably more than 500 people in the Bute hall, and numerous students being refused access for health and safety regulations. Although Tuesdays events and the Hetherington occupation were discussed, the main focus was on the ongoing consultation run by the Senior Management Group about the proposed cuts at Glasgow University and its future in general.
The GU Dialectic Society hosted a heated Debate about the Hetherington Research Club occupation that very evening, which was covered by GUST as well and will be available as soon as possible, hopefully this weekend.
This recording was produced in association with Subcity Radio, who kindly provided the audio feed to GUST.
